Oh My Goodness

The IPCC is trying to get this year's reports in order and ready for full publication. As usual, they are coming out in dribs and drabs, and getting reacted to along the way.

Here is a stark video summary of what the British find in what is coming out. There is probably a parallel writeup, but I don't have it handy, yet.

Survivable IPCC projections based on science fiction - reality is far worse:

Quick Summary: Three scenarios were discussed

  1. The “business as usual” scenario – presented because NOTHING in the DATA says we are doing any different – and it is NOT SURVIVABLE.
  2. A scenario talking about stopping at 2 Degrees C. But, the ONLY WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS INCLUDES MASSIVE SEQUESTRATIONthat we don't know how to do.
  3. A scenario talking about stopping at 1.5 Degrees C. But, the ONLY WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS INCLUDES MASSIVE SEQUESTRATION, and it's still essentially unbelievalble.

Here is a chart of some of the scenarios for 2 Degrees C. The idea is that we don't believe burns can stay within budget (GREEN), so make up for it with carbon capture and sequestration (RED when we spend it, too) (BLUE when we have net sequestration). Remember, James Hansen believes that our best attack at that is organic, and that is a big deal:
