Line 1: Line 1:
 +To Oregon Climate Activists,
 +
+If HB 2020 had passed, I know just exactly what I would be working on.  I don't know if the legislative enthusiasm is there to support it or not.  In a lot of ways, the phone line to that world seems to have gone quiet.
 +
+HB 2020 was never the ogre that the rural Republicans seemed to believe it was.  But, I don't think they yet understand that.
 +
+HB 2020 was never good enough that if it were passed, we could sit back in our seats and congratulate ourselves on climate leadership.
 +
+HB 2020 is a good framework for bringing together
 +
 +  * decarbonization requirements
 +  * climate justice funding
+  * funding for starting experiments on organic sequestration/drawdown
 +
+but it is nowhere near an immediate decarbonization start that would bring us to at least 50% decarbonized by 2030.
 +
+I would be pleased if these things happened:
 +
 +  * 2020 gets passed
+  * decarbonization get strengthened to SR 1.5 levels, meaning lots of green energy comes in, and carbon goes out.
+  * we get started on understanding drawdown
+  * we get seriously involved into the equity and infrastructure improvements necessary to make home and farm and business transitions to green energy
 +
+Setting up to enable these things to happen seems to be dependent on getting a lot of people to agree on the starting premise.
 +
+Tracy and I have tried to create a story that leads people to what we hope will be a common understanding that:
 +
+One little state is what every participant in the Paris Accord is.  And with about 200 of us (see story), it is time we started pointing in a common direction.
 +
+If IPCC SR15 hasn't scared you, you weren't paying attention.  Look at what Greta Thunberg says, and what Extinction Rebellion says.   A big part of the message is; "The house is on fire and we need to put it out."  **Nothing anyone has done has caused the world-wide emission curve to quit accelerating to higher ground.**
 +
+I think every week there is a new science story that is scary as all getout. Paul Beckwith is doing a great job of following such things.  Just one of his stories is a hell of an example.
 +
+So, I believe we need to listen up enough to get real excited about jumping to the rescue.  But recognizing that this is a team of teams.  Somewhere around 200 "states" about Washington's or Oregon's size that all need to be rowing their boats to the same target.
 +
+This link points to our current draft of that story.  We really want it to have the backing of ESF.  But, if we fail that we must find a way to persevere.
 +
+Please read this and understand that all it is,is a new premise-setting story from which to start forward, again.
